OEM Land Rover Belts, Pulleys & Brackets

Land Rover Belts FAQ

What Do They Do?

Move all the parts of your SUV that have to move for the luxury ride you love to run at all.

How Many and What Kinds are There?

Three: a serpentine belt, V-belts or drive belts, and a timing belt.

What Does Each Do?

  • Serpentine belt: works with crank and idler pulleys and tensioners to move parts in the alternator, the power steering, and other systems.
  • V- and drive belts: work with the crank pulley and pass through the radiator, water pump, and other systems, helping move their parts as they do.
  • Timing belt: makes sure the camshaft and crankshaft run in sync, preventing auto parts from colliding with one another. Newer Land Rover models may use timing chains instead; they do the same thing.

What are the Signs They're Going Bad?

  • For serpentine belts: shallow grooves, cracking
  • For drive or V-belts: squeals, alternator problems, cracks, excessive tightness, unusual looseness, engine overheats
  • For timing belts and chains: general damage

When Do You Replace Them?

  • The serpentine belt: if you see the signs mentioned above -- otherwise, every 90,000 miles; inspect it every 60,000 miles
  • The V- or drive belts: when they present the symptoms mentioned above
  • The timing belt: when it shows signs of failure -- otherwise, every 60,000 to 90,000 miles
  • The timing chain (if your SUV has one): likely never. Timing chains generally last the lifetime of an engine

If you're still unsure when to change them, you can find more info and details in your owner's manual. When it's time to buy replacements, though, be sure to get the genuine article.

Why Buy Genuine Land Rover Belts?
